# What is Diagrid?

Diagrid is a **durable execution platform** for AI agents, workflows, MCP servers and apps.
It gives them durable execution, verifiable execution and a cryptographic identity with policy-based access, and it works with any agent framework.
You add these to your agents and tools without writing reliability or security code in your application.

**Where Diagrid fits.** Your agents and apps run where you choose and call Diagrid, which makes their execution durable, verifiable and secure.

- **Diagrid**, Durable execution platform ([Built on Dapr · CNCF graduated](https://docs.diagrid.io/dapr-open-source)):
  - **Durable execution:** Agents and workflows resume after crashes and restarts.
  - **Verifiable execution:** A signed, tamper-evident history of every step.
  - **Identity & access:** A cryptographic identity and policy-based access on every call.
- **Your infrastructure** (any cloud · on-prem · hybrid): Compute, Networking, Storage, LLMs, External services

## Durable

**[Durable execution](https://docs.diagrid.io/concepts/durable-execution)** means agents and workflows recover from failures and resume where they stopped.
After a crash, deploy or restart, Diagrid picks up from the last completed step instead of starting over, so no progress is lost and completed steps aren't repeated.
Workflow activities run at least once, not exactly once: an activity can run more than once, so make its side effects idempotent.

## Verifiable

**[Verifiable execution](https://docs.diagrid.io/concepts/verifiable-execution)** lets you prove what ran.
Diagrid cryptographically signs each step of a workflow's history, producing a tamper-evident record that anyone can check independently: any change to it is detected.
When an agent delegates work or calls a tool, you can prove not just *who* made a request, but *how* the execution reached it. A bank can confirm a payment came from an approved workflow, and a regulated team can show a process ran every required step.

## Secure

Every workload gets a cryptographic **[identity](https://docs.diagrid.io/concepts/identities)**, and **[policies](https://docs.diagrid.io/concepts/policies)** decide which workloads can call which services, tools and resources.
Access is checked on every call, so an agent can only reach what it has been allowed to reach.

## How Diagrid runs

Diagrid never executes your application or agent code.
Your apps and agents run wherever you choose and call Diagrid over its APIs.

Diagrid itself runs in one of four [deployment models](https://docs.diagrid.io/operate/hosting): Diagrid Cloud and Dedicated Cloud run in Diagrid's cloud; BYOC runs the data plane in your cloud, managed by Diagrid or self-managed; Enterprise Server runs entirely on your infrastructure and can be air-gapped.
To bring existing apps onto Diagrid, see [Connect to Diagrid](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/connect).

Diagrid is built on open-source [Dapr](https://docs.diagrid.io/dapr-open-source), a CNCF graduated project, and on open standards.
It works with any language and any agent framework, including [Dapr Agents](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/dapr-agents), [CrewAI](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/crewai), [LangGraph](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/langgraph), [Strands](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/strands), [OpenAI Agents](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/openai), [Google ADK](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/adk), [Pydantic AI](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/pydantic-ai), [Microsoft Agent Framework](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/microsoft), [Mastra](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/mastra) and [Claude Agents](https://docs.diagrid.io/develop/agents/claude).
